Using colons: an explanation follows — 2 Comments

  1. Uses of lists include: to recall items to buy; to inform others of a required sequence; to systematically record observations; to make a series of points; and to illustrate the use of a colon without the need for it to be preceded by a full sentence!

    • Your colon is incorrect. Your list is the object of your verb and should therefore follow immediately without punctuation. I just checked Chicago Manual of Style. Can you cite a style manual that endorses your sentence?
